Google Ads Will Take User Location into Consideration

Google Ads Will Take User Location into Consideration

Just when you think web advertising couldn't get any more converged, Google announces that will now allow advertisers to embed phone numbers into mobile ads so that customers can simply click to call.

The ads will target high-end browser-equipped phones like those running Android or Windows Mobile, and will take into account the user's given location.

For example, should use "Google" restaurants so as to make reservations, your search results will allow for a click to call the nearest location. While the ability to "click to call" is not new, Google said advertisers who participated in the beta trial saw improved click-through rates, and experienced more visits to their websites in addition to incremental phone calls.

Apple's iPad: A Mixed Bag of Tricks

Apple's iPad: A Mixed Bag of Tricks

With all of the hype surrounding Apple's iPad tablet computer, which is set to be released this April, analysts are predicting that the biggest squeeze may be felt by digital reading devices like Amazon's Kindle and Barnes & Nobel's Nook.

The reason for this prediction is that the iPad will likely include the free Kindle application, meaning it will allow users to purchase and read ebooks, epapers, and etexts without having to buy the pricey Kindle hardware (which can perform only a fraction of the functions of the iPad).

Surprisingly, with preliminary units of the iPad being tested by the press, several expected features seem to be absent from the hardware. Among these, 3G Support for Verizon, lack of Flash support, and no integrated camera/ web cam (a popular feature among netbooks).

LG Teams up with Viking Appliances

LG Teams up with Viking Appliances

When you think LG, the first thing that comes to mind may very well be cell phones but the company is making a push in the home appliance segment as indicated by the company's latest move. In an unlikely collaboration, LG Electronics and appliance maker Viking Range Corp of the United States have entered into an alliance.

South Korea's LG hopes to reach more U.S. consumers by making use of Viking's distribution network, while Viking hopes its high end appliances will benefit by increased market presence in Asia.

Going beyond simply distribution networks, the two companies will also cooperate in product sourcing, research and service.

Sony TransferJet Technology Coming to a Gadget Near You

Sony TransferJet Technology Coming to a Gadget Near You

Move over Bluetooth, Sony is about ready to release a new technology that supposedly does everything Bluetooth promised only without the complication of recognizing like devices security difficulties.

Calling it TransferJet, the new wireless medium will allow wireless data transfer between gadgets and Sony says consumers should expect to see it appearing in a wide variety of products real soon. However unlike Bluetooth or 80211b/g, TransferJet works at a range of only up to 3 centimeters and its speed will rival USB cables.

Before you become suspicious of its usefulness at such a small range, Sony says the main benefit of the technology is that it will allow users to send photos or data from one device to another by just touching them together.
