Ask someone what their favorite MP3 player is and you'll probably know what they're going to say before they say it.

"Oh, an ipod, of course. That's why everyone has it".

There are two problems with that.

• An iPod is not an MP3 player. It only plays music that is formatted for the iPod. This forces you to purchase most of your music from the expensive iTunes store. To convert MP3s, you need to use iTunes, which gets tedious after a while.


• There are several much better players than the iPod. Sure, it's small and portable, and sure, it's cool, but other than that, the inside of it isn't that great. The battery life is fair, the sound quality is nothing special, and it's more expensive than other MP3 players. It also does not have any music features, such as EAX audio, that some higher end MP3 players have. It's also very fragile, and breaks easily.

So now I hope you think twice, or even three times before you buy an iPod. Who knows, maybe you'll even be able to convince the guy from earlier.
