Wireless Microphones For Video Production

Last week I received a call on Skype regarding wireless mics that can be used during video recording. Not having a knowledge of what camcorder the caller had, I went hunting and found these two solutions.

Sennheiser EW100ENGG2

Sennheiser EW100ENGG2

This unit is one that most Professionals use to record audio when a "lapel" mic is needed. It's lightweight, compact and chalked full of features. It has a built in LCD screen on the receiver and the transmitted to allow the user the ability to set frequencies and channels. 2AA batteries can power the units for about 8 hours. This MSRP is $1,135.00, but if you are looking for quality, this is a great Professional unit.

I give it 4 out of 5

Audio-Technica ATR288W

Audio-Technica ATR288W

The other product that I reviewed in Podcast (003) was the Audio-Technica ATR288W VHF TwinMic System. This unit MSRP is only $249.95 and it comes with more accessories then Sennheiser unit, however sound quality and tuning options are not as good. The caller asked for a cheap solution and sometimes cheap means sacrificing quality. For simple voice recording straight to video this unit should be able to handle the job. I use mics from audio-technica to record my Podcast and for other professional needs in my "real" job.

I give it 3 out of 5
