Wind Up Lamp Looks Like Something Out Of Oz
Wind up radios are old hat, but this one was new one me – a wind up lamp. What's kind of cool about it is the chunky wind up key sticking out of the side, giving it a distinctly wizard of oz/Disneyfied look.

It comes as no surprise to learn, then, that this is straight out of Japan, home of all things cutesy-pie. Over at Geekologie there are a few more details (along with a hilariously unwholesome anecdote which I'll let you discover for yourself):
"The wind up lamp, designed by Yuko Tagushi, is very cool. It runs off a high carbon tensile steel spring. As the spring unwinds, it powers a small electric generator, producing enough power to keep the light on. When the key winds down, it's lights out."
My personal doubt is that this thing does its job silently. I can't imagine the windup lamp being wildly relaxing if it issues a chugging, grinding or tick-tocking sound. Anyone given one a try?

This depends upon what size of turbine is installed. For a typical model HY-1500 wind turbine. It is mounted on a 7 meter tilt-up tower. The concrete base is approximately 0.8M x 0.8M x 2M deep. It needs to be in an exposed area with minimum of interruptions from buildings or trees from the prevailing wind direction. It should be mounted at least 20 Meters from nearby buildings or trees. In general a 400mm2 site should be a minimum, depending on shape and orientation to the building. A power cable from the turbine needs to be connected to the battery set or to the mains supply. There is also some electrical equipment which needs to be installed in side your house near to the incoming electrical supply.
