Versace To Enter Handset Market: Penny Pinchers Need not Apply

Just when you thought Hollywood's influence on society couldn't get any worse, Italian fashion house Versace has unveiled the "Unique," a luxury touch screen smartphone, crafted, naturally, from high-tech ceramic and handmade lacquers and framed in an 18-carat yellow gold finish.
Two versions will be available, one framed with an 18-carat gold finish the other a 316L-grade stainless steel inlay. The back is covered in handcrafted leather and embossed with Versace's Medusa head emblem.
Additional features include a scratch-resistant crystal touch screen display, a 5.0-megapixel camera, music player with Dolby Mobile surround sound technology and 3G connectivity.
Giorgio Armani, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana have all released mobile phones, but until recent years, the handsets sold for well under $1,000. Versace says the Unique will be sold through its flagship boutiques worldwide starting in June. Pricing details aren't finalized but are expected to end up between $5,500- $8,000. That's a lot of iPhones!
