However, if you read the original NY Times article that TechSpot links to, things really aren't as bad as they sound - they're going to be serving ads in spots where you'd expect to see ads online. Think about it: when you surf the Internet on a cell phone, unless you're hitting up something like Google's WAP site, you're going to see ads anyway - why shouldn't Verizon get a cut of the action? What would be nice, of course, would be if they cut prices on their data plans as a result, but I think that will only happen if a.) they make money from the ads and b.) other carriers follow suit and cut data plan prices for a competitive edge.
