In effort to boost publicity of the Android platform, Verizon Wireless plans to sell the HTC Droid Eris, a Google Android equipped wireless device, today for $100.
The Droid Eris is nearly identical to HTC's Hero smartphone, which Sprint is currently selling for $180. In fact the Droid Eris actually runs on HTC's Sense interface (seven-panel home screen with customizable widgets).
Users can access text messages, emails and call history and even Facebook updates from a single contact card.
Additionally the unit features a 3.2-inch capacitive touch screen, GPS, digital compass, gravity-sensor, 3.5mm stereo headset jack, a 5.0-megapixel auto-focus camera and expandable microSD memory.
The handset joins Verizon's list of Android-equipped devices (such as the highly-anticipated Motorola Droid, which just so happened to go on sale the same day) but can boast being the most-affordable.
