If you live in Europe and you're dying to get your hands on a Treo 650, you'd better hurry - as of this past Saturday, Palm is no longer allowed to ship 650s to Europe because they violate the Restrictions of Hazardous Substances Directive. According to CFO Andy Brown, Palm decided nine months ago they would not change manufacturing to meet the directive, opting instead to release a new smartphone in Europe later this year. Although Palm has released the 700p and 700w in North America, they do not have a more recent version of the Treo than the 650 available in Europe, leading some analysts to question why Palm would opt to drop momentum in European sales. Palm insists that the setback is only temporary and that the coming months will mark a new push in Europe for Palm, marked by the new smartphone and the construction of a new engineering facility in Dublin.
