Toshiba Introduces 64GB SDXC Card
Filed in archive Storage Stuff by Chris Matier on August 5, 2009
How fast is too fast, and how large is too large? The answers to those questions is quite different if you are talking about your spouse, your date, or your SDXC card. Personally, when it comes to storage for media players and DSLR cameras, I prefer to have my SDXC card huge and fast. I know Toshiba agrees with me because they are introducing new SDXC cards that are both very speedy and very roomy.

Clocking in with 35MB/S write speeds and 60MB/S read speeds, these 64GB, 32GB, and 16GB will be capable of storing gobs of data on a DSLR camera or media player. Heck, my SSD in my MacBook is only 80GB. It is strange to think that a flash card could hold nearly as much data as my entire boot drive. The real application of these SD cards will be for HD video streaming and capturing. Combined with a speedy USB 3.0 port, the next generation of Portable Video Camcorders will be impressive. The cards won't be available until spring of 2010, and you can bet they they will be as expensive as they are fast, but if you are the kind of person who needs one, you can probably afford one.
