Those Amp'd Mobile Phones? Recycle Them.
As I predicted earlier, it appears that Amp'd Mobile customers won't be able to use their phones on competing mobile phone networks that use CDMA. Now to be fair, only Verizon and Sprint were called here, but those are the major CDMA carriers in the US. It's possible your regional CDMA carrier might allow you to use the phone, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Since your Amp'd Mobile phone will likely be useless very soon, please recycle it. Nokia will recycle your phone in an environmentally responsible manner for you at no cost. If you can do the right thing for no cost, why not?

The whole Amp'd Mobile shutdown thing illustrates one reason I encourage people not to use a CDMA carrier for mobile phone service in the US. If your carrier shuts down, your expensive phone becomes a brick. Go with a GSM carrier, such as AT&T and T-Mobile. Buy an unlocked, (preferably) non-carrier branded phone. This likely means not buying a phone from a carrier-store. In this way, if your carrier shuts down, like Amp'd did, you can get a new SIM card and continue to use your old phone with your new carrier.

What do you think about all this? Leave your thoughts and ideas in the comments.
