The Turbo.264 Accelerates Video Conversion for Apple TV
Watch a lot of video via iPod or Apple TV? Apparently you're trapped in a world of slow conversions - or so Elgato Systems would have you believe. Elgato's newest product is the turbo.264, a USB stick and some software that decreases the time of conversion of video files to the H.264 (hence the name) MP4 standard that you can play on iPods or Apple TV. The turbo.264 is Mac-only (bummer) and can decrease conversion time by a factor for four for Intel machines and a factor of ten on PowerPClinks machines. The conversion process isn't automatic - you need to drag and drop the files before it starts - and for $99 for something your computer can do anyway, I can't see the turbo.264 being something you'd really need unless you're converting a LOT of video, or you're really, really impatient.
