The iPhone: Not Likely a Big Seller?

Just because we really haven't all heard enough about the iPhone, Newsday writer Michael Himowitz has a piece about how the iPhone won't sell – except to what he calls (repeatedly) the Apple Cult – because the iPhone doesn't add anything new to the equation. Along with a nice synopsis of how the iPhone trademark ended up in the hands of Cisco – hence the lawsuit – Himowitz does make one interesting point I haven't seen anywhere else: the launch of the iPhone might have the beneficial side effect of raising interest in cell phone data plans because so many of the "Apple Cult" will buy data plans with their new iPhones and get other people interested in the idea in the process. To be honest, I'd be psyched if that were to happen; maybe the price of data plans would go down in the process.
