There are some high-tech adaptations to low-tech devices that are absolutely note necessary. Digital toilet paper, for example, would be a complete bust, and intelli-rocks are a bit overkill. But, if you have ever done a little handy-work around the house, then you know that a smartbolt would be absolutely genius.
Smartbolts, soon to flood the world and replace plain-old dumb bolts, come complete with a tension indicator. As the bolt is tightened, the indicator changes color and lets the user know just how tight the bolt really is. Red is bad; yellow is better, and black is perfect. This Smartbolt concept may seem silly, but I honestly think that turning bolts into gadgets is a good thing. After all, bolts are often used when safety really matters.
The next generation Smartbolt should include a RFID chip that sends a signal to let people know if a bolt is loose. That way, crews could walk around buildings and equipment with a scanner and "listen" for loose bolts. When technology can be used to make lives better, we all win.
Good job Smarbolt!
