ReCellular is a US company based in Michigan that receives over 70,000 cell phones a week and refurbishes some to sell most part of them on other countries, their actual number is pretty impressive taking in consideration that 15 years ago they only received 400 cell phones a month, but at the same time, a decade ago I didn't even have a phone so that point must be worth something. Take note that most of the received products were collected via charity, so they spend close to zero (maybe donate something to charities) and make a good buck out of the recycling process by selling them for $17 or $18 to retailers. It looks like a small price right? Well, their revenue last year was $40million and it's improving as time passes this year.

The mechanism is pretty simple: identify the reusable cell phones from the rest that are only worth to recycle the wires, cords and other parts. After being separated they get in the testing mode, and if it doesn't need a fix they are packaged by model, otherwise, they will fix them. Other valuable numbers are the phone models that ReCellular supports which is close to 500, and the most impressive part is that 60% of the phones that they receive are reusable.
