Here are more details on the latest Barenaked Ladies tour along with show dates and the when/where/how:
The BARENAKED LADIES hit the road later this month for their Fall tour in support of Barenaked Ladies Are Me, which USA TODAY called "the most straightforward, melodically and harmonically rich collection of songs the Canadian popsters have come up with yet."
Barenaked Ladies have long been known for their environmental efforts and their upcoming tour takes those efforts to another level. The band has teamed up with the environmental non-profit Reverb to develop a "Barenaked Planet" at each of their tour stops.
"We're looking forward to reducing the amount of waste and CO2 emissions we create on tour," says BNL bassist/vocalist Jim Creeggan. "Now that technologies like Biodiesel, Renewable Energy and Compostable Products are available, it has made it possible for us to take action against environmental threats like Global Warming and Deforestation. We hope the concert industry will take the opportunity to use these innovations as well. There isn't time to wait."
Staff from Reverb will travel as part of the BNL crew to create interactive Eco-Villages, coordinate Village participants, coordinate biodiesel deliveries and fill-ups, oversee and guarantee recycling at each venue and secure wind energy offsets for the power used at each and every show. Additionally, merchandise will consist of organic cotton, recycled papers and soy inks, while backstage catering will be organic foods.
"Reverb is honored to be working with Barenaked Ladies to build upon the greening programs that we collaborated on in 2004," says Reverb Co-Director Lauren Sullivan. "The band is going the distance with their new "Barenaked Planet" by using biodiesel in all of their trucks and buses, recycling backstage, inviting out environmental organizations across the country and by offsetting their shows with wind power through a partnership with Native Energy. It's an incredible effort, and one that we're happy to be a part of."
Thanks to Native American-owned, NativeEnergy--a national marketer of renewable energy credits or "green tags," offering individuals and organizations a means to compensate for their global warming pollution--100% of the total estimated energy used during each Barenaked Ladies' show will be offset with new renewable energy. At each venue, fans will also be able to purchase "Barenaked Planet" wind offsets to neutralize the CO2 emissions from their drive to and from the show. BNL and their fans will actually play a role in helping to build Native American-owned and operated wind farms and a family dairy farm methane energy projects.
Creeggan adds, "Ultimately, at the end of a tour, all we would like to leave behind is our music. Thanks to the truckers, bus drivers, promoters, venues, and our fans for going for it with us."
