Sony Pulls Racy PSP Ads in Netherlands
Sony was smart enough not to try and run their black and white conflict billboards advertising the new white PSP in the USA, where racial tensions simmer below the surface and the ads would have caused a public relations disaster. However, Sony did take the chance of running the ads in Europe, where they drew fire for the tacky use of racial conflict to promote product awareness. Sony announced today that they're pulling the ads from the Netherlands and apologized to anyone they offended, but I (cynically) have to wonder if the purpose of these billboards was to offend people enough so that they do pay attention to the launch of the ceramic PSP. The old adage about any publicity being good publicity certainly seems to apply to this product launch.
