Sony has announced a new HandyCam called the HDR-SR1E. The camera has a built in 30GB HDD for storing your recorded footage. At first glance you might think that having a HDD of a fixed capacity and not being able to change tapes or discs as needed would be a big problem. However, the HDD give significant record time of a full 11 hours in 5 Mbps long play mode. If your kids piano recital goes 11 hours you have bigger problems to deal with than running out of hard disk space on your camcorder. You can record in 7 Mbps mode for 8 hours and 30 minutes, 7 hours in 9 Mbps mode and 4 hours in 15 Mbps mode. Once you get home the included software allows you to connect to your PC an burn your video to DVD at the touch of a button on the camera.
