Sony Has Ebook Announcement Too - Kindle DX doesn't Care

First, the Kindle DX is official, and it is big. The Kindle DX features a 9.7 E-paper display that is prominently displayed on the 8.5 X 11 inch behemoth E-book. They did forget to increase the size of the keyboard however, and they left off theleft-hand side buttons. Left handed Kindle owners are at a distinct disadvantage at this point. The Kindle DX is not a Kindle 2 replacement. Rather, it is an entirely different product with its own purpose. It is designed as a newspaper reader and as an electronic textbook. The analogy would be an iPod Nano versus an 32GB iPod Touch, they are built for different purposes, so they don't really compete with each other. Personally, I am just fine with my Kindle 2, and I will not be upgrading. The DX monstrosity is no longer portable and I cannot fit it into my bag, so I do not need it. I do appreciate the ability to natively read PDF files and to adjust to landscape orientation - I would love to have those features as a firmware upgrade to my current device.
In other E-Book news, Sony has released the Danielle Steel Limited Edition of its PRS-505. It is red, and it comes with free Danielle Steel novels. Oh yeah, it also includes an embossed cover. Other than that, it is the same PRS-505 that cannot and will not compete with the Amazon Kindle in any practical way. It is red though, so if you absolutely must have an E-Book reader, and you suffer from Leukophobia (fear of the color white), then at least Sony has your back.
