Sony Ericsson to Deliver Three New Smartphones

Sony Ericsson unveiled three exciting new phones: the Android-based Xperia X8, the Cedar and Yendo devices, and announced plans to upgrade the X10, as the beleaguered handset maker looks to try and wrestle some market share away from the Apple iPhone-crazy public.

Sony, the fourth-largest phone maker in the world, said that the Xperia X8 (shown) is simply a cheaper version of its flagship X10. It runs Google's Android operating system and features a 3.0-inch screen and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

The Cedar, meanwhile, has a 2.0-megapixel camera and is made from recycled materials, while the Yendo is the company's first touch screen phone with Walkman music capabilities. All three handsets will be launched in the third quarter.

Sony Ericsson also plans to upgrade the software on the X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro in the coming months. These smartphones will run Android 2.1, while the flagship X10 will also get high-definition video recording and the option to connect wirelessly to a television.
