Some Interesting Stats about the Apple iPad

Now that the hype surrounding the Apple iPad has slowed to a dull roar, some analytics companies are doing what they do: crunching numbers on the subject. No, I won't fill your head with all sorts of sales stats and data that only a marketing firm can decipher; instead I'll share a few things I found interesting. Like what? Well for once thing content for the iPad has proven pricier than the same content for the iPhone (averaging $3.61 per app opposed to $3.55).

Here's another: Of the 2,385 applications available exclusively for the iPad, the majority, 833 of those titles (35%) are games. Second place honors go to the entertainment sector with 260 titles and rounding out the trifeca is education apps with 205 apps.

Now before you get upset that the iPad is a glorious Game Boy, remember this: Compared to the iPhone, which is revealed at some 70% game apps, the iPad is in fact being used for much more utilitarian purposes!

In fact the top downloaded paid app for the iPad turns out to be Apple's own Pages App, an office suite which features Word processing abilities while the top free download happens to be iBooks, Apple's proprietary electronic book reading software.
