SCiB, or Super Charge Ion Batteries recharge to 90% capacity in 10 minutes and will last longer than traditional lithium-ion batteries. They don't explode when they are crushed or overheat, and they are good for 5,000 - 6,000 recharge cycles. That means they will outlive regular lithium-ion batteries by a at least 4,000 or so cycles.
At the Ceatec electronics exhibition in Chiba, Japan, Toshiba demonstrated a working model of the SCiB, and it did actually perform as promised. At this point, the batteries are expected to hit the market sometime next year.
