Privacy, Just a Button Aaway
I recall a recent TV commercial for 3M screen filters where two businessmen on an airline took turns spying on another businessman's laptop screen by alternating who was staring at his screen from the side. The point was that these screen filters would eliminate the problem by making it so you could only see the laptop's LCD screen by looking at it head on, but what if you find yourself in a situation where you need to share the screen? You probably can't peel the filter off and even if you can, why would you want to?

Monitor manufacturer LG.Phillips LCD apparently asked themselves the same question, because they have a solution: according to The Korea Times, the company announced two days ago that they've created a prototype of an LCD screen that shifts its viewing angle from 180 degrees to 80 degrees at the push of a button. LG.phillips LCD will be coming soon to laptops and should be useful for ATMs as well. Sounds pretty cool to me - who knows, having this privacy switch might just keep that noisy coworker from reading your email over your shoulder and telling the whole office about the results of your date last night.
