Panasonics Unveils HDTV Photo Player

A caveat here: I'm not sure if this product is about to hit the market, or a blogger at Wired didn't check his sources (the press release from Panasonic dates from July 19, 2006). In any case, what we're talking here is Panasonic's HDTV Photo Player (the DMW-SDP1), a $130 device that projects photos from SD/SDHC memory cards onto high definition televisions. Apparently any image taken by a digital camera qualifies as HD. According to Panasonic, the idea is meant as a modern throwback to the age of the family gathered the photo album – except now, instead of Grandma's uncomfortable cloth-covered couch, you'll be sunk into an overstuffed leather Lazy-Boy, drooling slightly while you stare at an enormous, high-definition picture of Aunt Sally in a bikini from her Bahamas photo collection, wishing you could stab your eyes out with a fork. It's gonna be loads of fun, I'm sure.
