OTOY Demonstrates True Potential of Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is certainly a buzzword today, but it is a concept that is taking hold with a gusto. As netbooks become more popular, and smartphones become more nimble and more intelligent, people are going to want legitimate ways to harness the power of the internet on dispoportionatley weak hardware. For example, a person might want to play a PC killing game like Crysis on a small device like a cell phone. Some say that it will never happen, but others disagree. In fact, OTOY says that it has already happened.

In the video below, a person is playing Crysis, in real-time, on a Samsung Omnia. This is impossible without OTOY's server-side rendering technology that makes it possible to remotely control a device and display it via the internet over a 3G or WiFi connection. The reality is that I could easily play any Xbox or PS3 game remotely on my iPhone. Although this is being implemented primarily as a gaming technology, the practical applications are quite intense. Virtual cloud computing could unlock the power of cheap netbooks and mobile phones, and create a true ubiquitious computing concept where we all have access to a super-computer, all of our data, and all of our applications at any point and in any place.

Check out the video below if you would like to see the OTOY technology in action. Yes, that is the real Crysis running on a real cell phone; impressive.
