Tech News Around The World

Military ground forces can now call in air support via a device similar to a cell phone. The devices interacts with a pod on the fighter plane called the Fighter Aircraft Communication Enhancement or FACE pod. FACE was devised as a means to improve communications in mountainous regions such as Afghanistan. "Our engineers hollowed out a jamming pod, put two iridium satellite-based telephones in it, and interfaced that with the aircraft's radio," said Colonel Touhill. "Now, any aircraft that can carry a pod can use this technology with little or no modification, and it's highly effective."
