In another generation, the "fireside chat" was made famous by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In this generation, youtube was made famous by a skateboarding dog. What happens when those two generations and ideals clash? That's right, you bet President Elect Obama hosting a "fireside chat" on youtube.

It may sound like I am poking fun, but I am not. To be honest, the concept is one that seems remarkably overdue. The next president of the United States better leverage technology and use social media to the best of his advantage. I just don't know if youtube is the correct avenue. The site seems a bit "un-presidential." I would openly embrace any president doing a weekly address via the web on their site, or perhaps all the major media outlet sites, but the president on youtube seems silly.

If you happened to miss the first of many online presidential addresses, here is the direct link.

Am I wrong here? Is it the right time for an online video communication, and is youtube the right place? If I am wrong, I would love to here it.
