NVIDIA Launches GeForce 8800 Ultra

If you're a computer hardware junkie – the sort of person who lives for the newest and best components, no matter what the cost – you're probably jumping and down with barely-suppressed glee over today's announcement by NVIDIA that the GeForce 8800 GPU will hit the streets non May 15 (and if you do love hardware and you haven't heard the news, I'm sure I've got your attention). The Ultra, which tops the 8800 GTX as NVIDIA's top-of-the-line video card, claims a 10 to 15 percent performance gain over its smaller brother and will retail at a minimum $829 per card. In its recommended configuration of two cards in a 680i motherboard, the Ultra will probably give you enough theoretical processing power to run the space shuttle to the Moon and back fifteen times – and more than enough power to run anything on the gaming market, at least until companies start to release DirectX 10 games.
