Nintendo Gains Technology to Add Storage to Wii
If you're wondering whether or not your nintendo wiilinks will one day have expanded storage capabilities for the hundreds of Virtual Console games you want to download (plus maybe a content delivery system at some point?), the answer to your question may be a bit closer. A company called eSOL announced yesterday that Nintendo has selected their "PrFILE2" FAT file system and "PrUSB/Host" USB host stack USB middleware products to work with the Wii. What this announcement means is that at some point, Nintendo can release drivers for the Wii that will allow it to support the use of external flash and disk drives via a USB connection, theoretically adding gigs of available storage to the system. No word on when these updates will take place, or even what Nintendo's plans are with the middleware.
