Nintendo Gains Technology to Add Storage to Wii

Nintendo Gains Technology to Add Storage to Wii

If you're wondering whether or not your nintendo wii will one day have expanded storage capabilities for the hundreds of Virtual Console games you want to download (plus maybe a content delivery system at some point?), the answer to your question may be a bit closer. A company called eSOL announced yesterday that Nintendo has selected their "PrFILE2" FAT file system and "PrUSB/Host" USB host stack USB middleware products to work with the Wii. What this announcement means is that at some point, Nintendo can release drivers for the Wii that will allow it to support the use of external flash and disk drives via a USB connection, theoretically adding gigs of available storage to the system. No word on when these updates will take place, or even what Nintendo's plans are with the middleware.

well i think nintendo should come up with a firmware update that would integrate the sd card as ram expansion and then a firmware update to add at least a 20 gb hdd the ram expansion would be for internet capabilities or an hd gaming solution the harddrive could be used for game saves, downloadable content for games or music and movies they could do so much if they did that and it would be cost effective plus it would be a better solution then just a hdd i have the wii and it is pityful to here that they havent done anything sooner technology changes within months to a year.. it’s about time nintendo opens there eyes more cuz pretty soon i think open source or even apple will come out with a devestating game console just look at the iphone or the ipod touch.
