Nice Try Scumbags…You’ve Been Foiled by Technology!
The English edition of Digital Chosunilbo has an interesting story of a stock-fixing scheme in Korea foiled three years after the fact by the discovery by prosecutors of a pen-sized digital recorder. A Korean staffer taking minutes during a critical meaning (where the members of investment firm Lone Star planned to fix the stock) hid the recorder behind a flowerpot because he did not trust his linguistic skills to faithfully record English.
The article has the rest of the story, but what struck me as the most interesting thing about this case was how much it seems like something out of a crime drama like CSI or Law and Order, where the perfect piece of evidence comes to light accidentally. Besides, who knew we'd have to start checking behind flowerpots if we want to avoid being taken down by The Man?
