Next Gen Apple TV To Mimic the iPhone 4

Current-generation Apple TV is based on a watered-down version of Apple's PC operating system, OS X, but the web is alive with talk of a new Apple TV device that will run on the next iteration of the iPhone OS.

The new architecture of the device is said to be based directly on the iPhone 4, meaning the same internals, down to that A4 CPU and a limited amount of flash storage (16GB) and will be capable of full 1080p HD output.

The limited onboard storage points to Apple moving in the direction of cloud-based storage and streaming the 1080p video for the new Apple TV rather than storing massive high-def video files locally.

Still, rumors suggest that users will also have the option to store data locally on an external storage unit, probably a wireless Time Capsule device because, according to those who've seen the prototypes, ports on the next generation Apple TV are limited to a power socket and video-out cable.
