Lite-On Announces World's First 20x SATA DVD Burner
When I read the headline about this new DVD burner I was excited because I thought the LH-20A1S was the world's first SATA DVD burner. As it turns out, it's not - it's merely the world's fastest SATA DVD burner, with a top speed of 20x. Why is this new drive exciting? Well, first of all, it's SATA. I picked up a Motherboard this past fall that had one IDE port and 10 SATA ports. I'd much rather make use of another one of those SATA ports than have to deal with the beast that is IDE. Second, more speed is always better when it comes to writing optical media, especially something big like a DVD. Remember when CD burns took 10 minutes? Now they're down to a minute, if that. Getting that much closer to that level of performance with a DVD burn is good news indeed.
