The Gaggenau BL 253 lift Oven makes that a thing of the past as it lowers your food underneath, and cooks it in the apparatus above. Apparently, this oven always stays hot because heat rises, and so very little ever escapes. Not that is an energy saver that Al Gore will just love!
Unfortunately, it's not a money saver. Right now, it costs $3,300 for the Gaggenau BL 253. You could probably rebuild your entire kitchen for that price.

You are right about Al Gore. I find this mechanism very functional, I wonder why appliance manufacturers didn't applied it before.
