Lexar Debuts its own ReadyBoost-Ready Drive
On the heels of OCZ Technology's announcement yesterday about the VBoost, Lexar has launched its own readyboost-capable product, the ExpressCard SSD. The ExpressCard, which is a solid-state drive, comes in sizes between 4 and 16 GB, includes automatic backup software and plugs into the ExpressCard port, now replacing the PC Card slot on many laptops. Its direct interaction with the computer's chipset as a USB device allows it to work as a ReadyBoost device. Given the size limitations (up to 4 GB) in the amount of extra RAM ReadyBoost technology can generate from storage space, I gather you'll be able to use the remainder of the larger capacity drives' storage space for backup operations at the same time. Because the ExpressCard fits into your computer and doesn't stick out like a USB drive would, installation could be a one-time affair to boost the capabilities of your Vista computer.
