I think that's where devices like Media Centre PCs, are a let down - they're capable of doing too much, the confuse the issue for most people. Those of us who are interested in doing more than just recording the latest episode of the West Wing are in the vast minority.

Ultimately, I think, for a company like Tivo, the solution is to offer a basic model to fit the 99% majority, then offer a "fiddlers" enhancement - perhaps with some sort of "if you do cool stuuff and give it back to us, we'll look at it, take your best ideas, and might inttegrate it into the next release" type deal.
