iTunes reaches 1 billion songs sold

I talked about the iTunes stores and the 1 billion songs before, in that post dated 9th of February there were 956,291,455 songs sold and the 1 billion mark was the "massive milestone in digital music history" that Apple talked about.

Two days ago, that goal was reached and who is the best person I could quote in this subject? Steve Jobs of course:

I hope that every customer, artist, and music company executive takes a moment today to reflect on what we've achieved together during the past three years

Over one billion songs have now been legally purchased and downloaded around the globe, representing a major force against music piracy and the future of music distribution as we move from CDs to the Internet

"Speed of Sound" by Coldplay, was the one, the 1,000,000,000 song purchased, and the lucky person Alex Ostrovsky from Michigan. The good prizes he will get:

  • 20-inch iMac

  • 10 fifth generation iPods

  • $10,000 Music Card good for any item on the iTunes Music Store

I say: That's one small step for mankind; one giant leap for Apple :)
