Despite earlier refusal for fear that television signal data would bog down the network, AT&T has now approved the SlingPlayer Mobile iPhone application.
The app is a television-viewing program, which operates on the high-speed 3G network and the decision to proceed reversed an earlier ban after federal regulators began looking into the wireless industry over discriminatory practices against certain types of Internet traffic.
Federal regulators are currently working on "net neutrality" laws that would prevent carriers from abusing their power in deciding what kind of Internet traffic is allowed or blocking customers from cheaper competing services. This latest announcement coincides with such concerns and represents the second time AT&T has relented in the situation (the first being last October when they approved voice software to run on the 3G network).
