Huzzah for Convergence
An Apple cell phone? Maybe one that uses a hard drive like the Samsung one I blogged about earlier today? And has iTunes and a UI that makes sense? Maybe you'd be able to check email, surf the web and do all the various higher cellphone functions as well? Sounds cool…but according to the analysts at American Technology Research, it's not something we're going to be seeing soon – but it will happen eventually, as market pressures force mobile device makers like Apple to invest in convergence devices. ATR bases its prediction on filing activity with FCC: Apple would have to get permission to produce cell phones at least three months before launching a new product. Of course, it might that Apple is a little gun shy; for all of the success with the iPod, a number of failed experiments with gadgets litter Apple's past.
