HTC Takes Action Against Apple

Perhaps the old adage should be changed to "if you can't beat em, ban em" at least if HTC's latest strategy is any indication. Taiwan-based HTC (maker of Google's Nexus One smartphone) filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission, seeking to ban U.S. imports on Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod products.

This latest complaint, which follows Apple's own suit against HTC two months ago, claims that Apple has violated five of its patents relating to mobile devices.

The ITC is no stranger to tech companies trying to resolve disputes. While the regulatory body can't award monetary damages, it does have the authority to block products from entering the United States, which usually results in accelerated settlements! Often times resolution arrives in just 12 to 14 months once the ITC gets involved rather than dragging on for years in the judicial system alone.

Just last month, Microsoft sided with HTC by giving it legal ammunition in its battle against Apple.
