I don't intend to extend into the whole gaming realm too much on this site - mostly because that space is already so well covered, but also because that's not how I spend most of my time these days.
The linked article, however, has some good information on setting up a small LAN area - with specific intentions towards network gaming, but this also turns out to be useful information for any sort of small network, especially in a smallish environment.
Now, if anyone has a good article on cable management, I'd love to hear about it - I need ideas for tidying up the mess behind/under/on my desk...
