HDTV on Your PC Too Good to be True?
For $89, you can pick yourself up a USB device that acts as an HDTV tuner, picking up HDTV broadcast signals from the air and displaying them on your Windows XP Media Center Edition PC. Pretty cool, especially since HDTV-enabled televisions aren't cheap. MobileMagazine wonders if the product is too good to be true and I'm inclined to agree, for two reasons:
  • It's broadcast signals only. In other words, you're not going to be getting any of those cable channels with this gadget.

  • You still need a video card with an analog TV tuner installed on your machine. Those cost a bit more than $89, but it's possible that if you're running Media Center Edition you thought about having a TV tuner card already.

If you're willing to live with the restriction of broadcast TV only, this device might be worth checking out.
