HD DVD Versus Blu-ray: Fight!
Filed in archive Household Entertainment by Eric Hanson on August 22, 2006

has something to prove, the benefits of either side aren't always clear, the best side doesn't always win (remember Betamax? A friend of mine is still upset that format didn't work out) and you as the consumer can get left holding the bag if you end up buying a player in a dead format. The current battle is between HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc to determine who is going to be the high definition successor to DVD. Fortunately, of course, the formats are the same size and shaped media, so companies are discussing the option of supporting both, but if you're in the market now, check out this review of the Samsung BD-P1000 on Digit; the pluses and minuses of the two formats the reviewers found might just be enough to keep you from buying for another year.
