The current battle is between HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc to determine who is going to be the high definition successor to DVD. Fortunately, of course, the formats are the same size and shaped media, so companies are discussing the option of supporting both, but if you're in the market now, check out this review of the Samsung BD-P1000 on Digit; the pluses and minuses of the two formats the reviewers found might just be enough to keep you from buying for another year.
