Google's App Marketplace Shows Potential

In what has been a trend of late in taking a chapter out of the book of Apple, Google went ahead and released its own Apps Marketplace while simultaneously demonstrating how external Web applications (even from other vendors) can be integrated into Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and other services that are part of the company's productivity suite.

Within their Campfire One event Google actually invited several of their marketplace partners to demo new apps of their own and the potential for integration. Intuit, for example, showed a Web-based payroll setup with Google Apps, allowing employees access to their paystubs/ payment history directly through Google Calendar.

Google is hoping that their Apps Marketplace will offer legitimate competition to Apple's App Store while hopefully increasing the popularity of google's first mobile operating system: Android.
