Google Unveils Google Maps Mobile

I have to admit: if I had a cellphone on Sprint or Cingular or had a Blackberry, I'd be all over the release of the new version ofGoogle Maps Mobile (GMM). Living in New York City, where traffic reports cover such a large area that each traffic report only covers a small part of the whole, it would be great to know whether I'm heading into disaster as I pull onto the highway and the radio isn't cutting it.
GMM already featured the same things that made Google Maps so cool – directions, dragable maps, integrated business contact info, those sattelite photos so you could stalk people…but now it's got real time traffic reports, too, with estimates of delays and congestion in 30 metropolitan areas in the US. Armed with something like this, anyone can find their way around, avoid traffic problems…sounds like people should be getting tax credits for downloading GMM for saving the environment from pollution.
One caveat to all of this awesomeness: no word on whether or not this will change, but right now you can't use GMM with any BREW-enabled phone, which means phones used by most of the cell phone providers out there. You also need a data plan, but that should be obvious.
