Google Scoops Up Picnik

Internet juggernaut Google has expanded its empire by acquiring online photo editing software called Picnik. The site gained notoriety by allowing users the ability to edit digital photos directly in their browsers (without having to download software).

Offering both a limited-feature free service and a full paid version that cost $25 annually, Picnik was serving some 2-million unique users each month.

The Picnik service will now be offered through Picasa, Google's photo storage site and the hot rumor is that perhaps a mobile variation of the site will begin coming as standard equipment in Google Android OS equipped devices.
