Google Android Television Device Coming Soon

It turns out cell phone operation is only the beginning of the plans Google has for it's Android software. Google has confirmed plans to unveil Web-based television software, built on its Android mobile operating system, to developers in May.

The new adaptation of Google's Android platform, called Dragonpoint, opens set-top boxes, TVs and other devices to content directly from the Web.

Google plans to share some details about the project with developers at an annual conference in San Francisco on May 19 and 20 and some big brands are already on board: Sony will be producing televisions and Blu-ray DVD players with Internet access that run the software, and Intel is contributing a customized version of its Atom chip to power the devices.

The companies are also working with Logitech to design keyboards that double as remote controls! And if all this weren't exciting enough, Google has been testing a television search service with Dish Network that allows viewers to find programming from the Internet rather than strictly off the guide.
