Gadget for the Urban Camper

For those of you who think camping is something you do out of the back of a car in a well-manicured campground that sports showers, a country store and possibly even a tennis court or two, you might want to add the Electric Marshmellow Toaster your camping arsenal. For $20, you get a battery powered, 18.5 -inch steel hand-held rotisserie with spikes for three marshmellows – about the equivalent of one s'more – and the satisfaction of watching your marshmellows toast all by themselves.
Of course, while this marshmellow toaster may have some advantages (kids: think of the possibilities of torturing your younger brother or sister while mom and dad aren't looking), it does remove one cherished marshmellow toasting tradition from the field: getting your stick so close to the flames that the marshmellow catches on fire and burns for about 10 seconds, creating a sticky, carcinogenic treat that forms the basis of many of my childhood camping memories. If you're the type of parent who wants to deny your kid the thrill of whipping around a flaming marshmellow at high speed (or you just don't like carcinogens), then by all means, check the Electric Marshmellow Toaster out.
