Floppy Disk is Actually Stealth CD-R
So, I was cleaning out an an old desk drawer the other day when I pulled out a floppy disk. My son picked it up and asked me what it was, and so I explained it to him. He looked at me, looked at the disk, and then peered at the iMac sitting on my desk and asked me where to stick it. I felt old. Over at the designboom shop, I have found a little trip down memory lane. They are selling CD-R disks that look just like my little friend the floppy.

Granted, the custom CD-R disks only hold 200MB; they are missing a big chuck of disk thanks to their "squareness", but they are cool. They certainly take me down memory lane to times when I had to run scan disk in Microsoft Windows 95 to try to recover the corrupted data on a floppy disk I carried around unprotected in my backpack. Boy, those were the days.

At $10 a pop, the Floppy Disk CD-R is hardly a good deal, but they are retro and will start a conversation. I have ordered a four pack just so I can make a lame joke here and there. I plan on carrying it around unprotected in my back pack so it can get all scratched up and corrupt my data. Technology has come so far.
