Eye-Fi Adds Youtube Support

Eye-Fi Adds Youtube Support

I own a Eye-Fi, or rather my wife does, and she loves it. The convenience of automatically uploading photos to our MacBook directly from our camera is cool, but she loves the automatic uploads of photos to Picasa from coffee shops when we are on vacation. Later this week at the Consumer Electronics Show 2009, Eye-Fi is announcing an upgrade to their Wi-Fi enabled SD cards, and I wonder what it will lead to.

At CES 2009 Eye-Fi is announcing a Wi-Fi enabled SD card that is equipped for direct upload to Youtube.com. That will allow us to take both video from our Flip and Camera and get it out to people to see immediately. It is a great way to capture and share those embarrassing moments with millions of people. That story of Uncle Eddies pants falling down will never be the same.

This move by Eye-Fi is getting us even closer to the idea of an omni-present media that is everywhere and knows everything. Some people might argue this is a good thing, but I question the inevitable death of privacy. Look for information as CES 2009 continues.
