DARPA Pushes for Personal Radar

You know those first person shooters where you can see the location of enemies thanks to a personal radar system? Pretty handy, right – even if it has no basis in the real world. Well…not so fast, there. Turns out DARPA, the government agency responsible for developing cool technology for the military, has commissioned a project that will allow soldiers to tap into local communication networks, use those networks for communication AND penetrate walls with an Ultra-Wide Band antenna and transmitter, creating, in effect, a personal radar system. According to Wired Blogs, DARPA wants to get this all done at $1,000 per unit, which seems pretty ambitious, but if it works out…very cool.
