There is no question that SSD (solid state drives) are the way to go in the future. They consume less power, they are quieter, and as anyone who has dropped a flash drive off of a five story building and retrieved their data can testify to; they are sturdier. Until recently, there was a huge gap between the capacity of traditional hard drives an SSD. Today, announcements by both Corsair and Super Talent bridge that gap.

Corsair has announced a 250GB SSD with impressive stats. The drive features a 200MB per second read speed and a 170MB per second write speed. At those speeds, data transfer is a breeze, and your entire system would be sped up dramatically; a traditional physical drive just can't compete. Not to be outdone, Super Talent has announced the MasterDrive RX 512GB SSD, it can read at 230MB per second and 200MB per second. Both of these drives feature a 2.5 inch form factor and will be available soon.

Everyone knows performance comes at a price. The Corsair drive will run $749, and the Super Talent MasterDrive RX will come in at a cool $1499.99. That's right for a smoking-fast SSD with an amazing capacity, you are paying nearly two-grand. OUCH! As with most things tech, prices will fall and specs will improve. ut for now, the Corsair and Super Talent drives are the best of the breed.
